My Present to Me!

Many a night when the house is creaky still I am ready to finish my day.  I wander through the house, same path every time turning off lights, checking doors.  Past the sketches we had done of our children when each of them was four. These indeed are our most valuable possessions! Past the dining room table where I feel the antique wool carpet under my toes we bought in Italy a zillion years ago for $20.00 (another story). Past the south windows where the yard is full of shadows meant to be there in night’s glow,  and then past the old buffet filled with framed photos of our family’s life moments: births, birthdays, graduations, and visits from grandparents now gone. Three beautiful grandbabies have an honored place on that buffet.  There is always room for more. Then into the kitchen I go with the yard light showing the way from the kitchen windows though I know I could navigate it in the dark.  I microwave 1 1/2 cups of water to boil. Scoop good, decaf, coffee into the bottom of my french press.  An inexpensive french press makes wonderful coffee quickly.  It is perfect when you just need a cup to two.  I leave the coffee sit a minute to develop flavor.  Next I simply press down the fine-meshed strainer to leave me a delicous cup of coffee to pour into my favorite mug. The strainer seperates all the grounds and leaves a ground-free, fast cup.  I enjoy my coffee in my favorite spot each time, leanng against the sink, looking out around our home. An odd time of the day for a cup of even decaf coffee, but that’s how it is for me.  Ahh, I love this little indulgence.  You should too.
