The Cow Jumped Over the Moon, Again, and Again, and Again!

Americans certainly enjoy eating meat! I love a bit of delicious grilled sirloin, or a mouth-watering bison burger. I eat meat, but goodness not nearly as often as I did a few years ago.  A serving of meat at our house is a strict 4 ounces.  It doesn’t matter if it is bison, fish, or poultry.  Red meat is eaten perhaps once a week, never more than that and usually less  Did you know that Americans consume so much beef, pork, lamb and chicken that if you stretched all those animals end to end they would go to the moon and back about 5 times!  Even the American Heart Association suggests people eat not more than 5 ounces of meat, fish, or poultry per day. Meat is a good source of protein, but protein can be found in beans and other plants too. When meat is on my menu I try to include meat from animals that are grass fed and are never fed any animal by-products, hormones, or antibiotics. Think about the meat you eat, how much and how often you eat it. Think too what the animal that is providing you the meat once ate before it ended up in the market. It matters.
