Out of the Mouths of Babes

Cooking has always been a pleaure for me.  I cook when I am happy, when I’m crabby, when I’m stressed. You get the idea – I just love to cook.  Baking on the other hand has always been more of a chore for me (See Recipes).  When the kids were little and I was working full-time I would make the largest pan of brownies I could just to have them last a while when I infrequently broke down and actually baked.  Cookies took too long to mix, to shape, to put on the pan, to take off the pan.  Snacks for the kids were usually fruit or yes, shame on me, store-bought somethings the kids were thrilled to eat.  Years ago our youngest son, about 5 at the time, was rustling through a bottom cupboard in our old kitchen with a bucket of magnetic shapes in one hand and I asked him what he was looking for.  “A fish stick tray” he answered without hesitation.  Never entered his mind it was a cookie sheet.  A true testemony to my lack of baking!
