Time after time, while preparing food for cooking I reach for my kitchen scissors, or shears. Kitchen shears help out in many situations. They are the perfect tool for cutting up a chicken, meat, or fish. Herbs and green onions snip into perfect, uniform pieces with a kitchen shears. Cutting meat packaging and wrapped foods is easier with my shears. Countless, practical uses abound. I did not have a pair of shears specific for my kitchen for many years. A knife block given as a gift included a pair and immediately I didn’t know how I survived in my kitchen for so long without shears. I became excesively protective of my shears. Often times I would see my shears left out after being used for cutting paper, a school project, or who knows what. Ohhh, that used to bug me so! Sadly, somehow, that first pair just disappeared. Left out in the garden, accidently thrown in the trash, or ‘borrowed’ by someone’s hands for a non-kitchen job, I just don’t know. I missed my shears. I tried using just a pair of heavy duty, utility scissors but they were not the same. Not long ago while strolling through our local downtown we stopped in the kitchen store and I picked up a new pair. My new kitchen shears attach easily to my magnetic knife rack. It is bright red so not to be confused by anyone under my roof as a scissors to be used for anything but food, and by anyone but me. Don’t touch my scissors!
