Broccoli is easy to find in any season just about everywhere. Fresh from the garden or the farmer’s market is always my first choice, it’s the best. Most grocery stores have ‘fresh’ broccoli in the produce section year round. Frozen broccoli is a convenient alternative when fresh isn’t available. Broccoli can be eaten raw, sauteed, stir-fried, steamed or boiled. Dressing cooked broccoli with lemon juice or butter, or both is a common serving style. To add a richness to your broccoli try bread crumbs. The crumb coating adds a new element to any meal. Steam your broccoli until just cooked. We like it a bit firm and never soft. For 4 cups of broccoli heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a pan. Add 2/3 cup seasoned, low-sodium, bread crumbs and remove the pan from the heat. Using a fork the oil and bread crumbs are mixed together. Toss in your cooked broccoli and ta-da, you now have a delicious new twist to an old favorite.
