Black beans burgers are delicious and easy to make at home. I like to know what is in my burgers so I always prefer to make them myself. There are quite a few ingredients in the recipe that all combine to make them so delicious. Black bean burgers are full of proteins, good fats, and fiber. Give them a try. They are easy to make organic just by making sure all your ingredients are organic. Black bean burgers freeze well so make up a big batch and keep some on hand. The bean mixture can also be broken up into small chunks and used like you would use ground beef for your favorite casseroles or sloppy joes
In a large bowl mix together:
1 15 oz. can black beans, rinsed and patted dry on a paper towel. Roughly chop the beans.
1/4 cup finely minced celery
1/4 cup minced green onions, tops and all.
1/2 cup cooked red quinoa
1/2 medium tart apple, grated
1 cup quick oats.
1/2 cup seasoned bread crumbs
Add the following:
2 tbsps dried onion
1 tblsp dry parsley flakes
1 tsp ground mustard
1 tsp hot chili powder
1 tsp regualr chili powder
1 tsp garlic salt
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp black powder
4 – 6 drops liquid smoke
Mix well. Cover and chill one hour, or longer. Form 4 oz. burgers. I often freeze them individually at this point and cook them frozen.
Lightly oil a pan and heat until very hot. Add burgers, reduce heat and cook 3 -4 minutes, turn and finish cooking.
These burgers cook quickly, turn once, making sure to cook until crisped on each side.
